Im facing some problems after upgraded my ubuntu.
After upgraded, i found out there are 2 ubuntu that using different kernel in GRUB.
The latest kernel, the wireless seem like a bit problem there. There is no wifi light, and it din show any available connection. But i can see the hardware there. After 1 or 2 mins, the wireless auto connected. The other problem is when i was watching movie or listening music, there is no sound come out from my headphone.

For kernel 2.6.24-14, the wireless working fine. But i cant listen any sound when i was watching video in youtube.

How to solve those problem??

Thanks

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem: no sound at all and the wireless connection stops working (although the signal seems to be ok according to the try icon). This problem have started right after the upgrading to 8.04.

My machine is an ASUS PRO31S F3SA, here's some inf about my system:

Losing sound is one of the known issues with 8.04, at least on some machines. See the Dell Linux Wiki Page for 8.04 (http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_8.04).

Having the same problem here men. Listen, I'm so so so so so so frustrated, in this moment And I am seriously thinking in GOING BACK TO WINDOWS VISTA ok? Yes! Your eyes dont lie! At first I loved Ubuntu, even though I had problems at my first day. I spent 3 hours trying to install a P2P program, then I got stuck with bugs and bugs and bugs I had to solve MANUALLLY by using the console (you dont know HOW I HATE THE CONSOLE), then stuff I couldnt fix. I moved to Kubuntu, and I liked it even though I had a problem at the first day. 1 week later I turn on my comp after upgrading it the previous day, and! OH SURPRISE! ITS all messed up!!!

Install linux-backport-modules. The version in that package turns on the wifi LED.

This thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=616845) worked for me in sorting out my sound problems. You have to use it to identify which command to use.

For me, I needed to

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

and add the following line

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-3stack

And the world is perfect again!
