Hi folks,

I'm trying to remove the vocals from a song to create an instrumental track in ubuntu which I can burn to a CD and let my friend use at a local talent show.

If it's necessary here's the download link: Right-click & Save as (http://www.tayzonday.com/Tay_Zonday_Chocolate_Rain.mp3).

Thanks,
CL94

Since the vocal is in the "center" of the stereo picture (in both the left and right channels at once), the following technique will work.

Open the file in Audacity. Click the name of the track, and in the drop-down menu that appears, select "Split Stereo Track." Now you'll have two tracks. Select one of them (doesn't matter which) and go to Effect -> Invert. Then click the name of the left (first) channel and go to "Make Stereo Track." Finally, go to Tracks -> Stereo to Mono and then save.
