I just put kubuntu 8.04 on my sony vaio, model number vgn-nr260e, and the atheros wireless card dosen't work because it has a switch in the front used to turn the function on and off, the switch worked using vista but now the wireless dosent work period, even when i had the switch on while installing. I have the driver for it so i cant think of any reason it wouldnt work, if any one has had this happen to them and knows how to fix it i would be very gratefull for any help received.

I'm having the same problem with my Vaio VGN-C140G. WiFi worked just fine in 7.10, and in almost every other respect 8.04 is working well for me.

When I try to use network manager, I get unknown device. The "WLAN" light on the notebook doesn't do anything, but still works fine in XP. :(

Any ideas about what to do about this would be greatly appreciated, as this is a show-stopper for using 8.04. I'm hoping it will be fixed shortly, since it is such a new release. If anyone would like dmesg, specific error messages, etc., let me know, and I can post them when I get home and have access to the wired network again.

For those of you still struggling with this, Chili555's method at http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5557124&postcount=4 worked perfectly for me on the Vaio NR260E (using the Atheros AR242x wireless card).
