View Full Version : [ubuntu] Re-add NetworkManager applet?

I accidentally removed the NetworkManager applet from my top-panel, and I can't see any way to get it back. It's not in the "add to panel"-list, nor does it help to remove and reinstall it...
Please help! :-)

nm-applet is not a panel applet, confusingly. nm-applet puts an icon to Notification area, so that's probably what you are missing -- try adding that into panel.

Still true for Intrepid
re-installing nm-applet, then logging out and back in again fixed it for me.

I lost the nm-applet in the notification area, but just dragged the access to the panel from systems, I have been unable to get the notification nm-manager to reinstall in intrepid their are a few others with this problem any ideas?

Try wicd instead of gnome-network manager. It works much better for me and for a lot of other people when you read this forum. It can be downloaded from here:

Thanks for the info I saw a reference to wicd on another thread and didn't look into it other then a search in synaptic, thanks for the link for downloading.
Edit; I installed wicd now I have a applet in the notification area again and it works great thanks for the help jongkind
