Fast compiz

so today i enabled compiz and most of the flashy stuff like cube, water ripple etc. so i decided to do a little glxgears benchmark on both compiz and metacity. for some reason i get about 2500-2700fps with metacity on, and with compiz i get abot 6900-7100fps, i ran this on my laptop as well and saw about a 300% increase in fps with compiz ON. could someone explain how this is possible, not that im complaining. tomorrow i will test my FPS on WoW under wine and post results.

p.s. im using gnome of course
