hi, sorry to be a pest, just wondering when the button to find all unanswered threads, and the one within each sub-section, to find them in the individual section, will be re-implemented into the new layout....

Thanks,
AJ

What will be the advantage of the forum 'update'? And whose idea it was?

Security, future features and plugins.

Idea? It had to happen. The server loads, the security options, the growing size of the forum meant keeping up to date was important.

I see. I was under the impression that Ubuntu Forums were using the 'latest' technology available because they had more features (and different layout) than other forums's interfaces (PCLinux Forum, NotebookForums, FedoraForum, etc). Now, with the new version, Ubuntu Forums seem more like the other ones (which I like because it doesn't take that long to display pages).

But I guess there is much more than the 'eye candy' in the Forums...

UF uses vBulletin, a very solid forum software package. If UF used the default vBulletin layout only, the upgrade would likely not cause many issues, but UF uses a custom theme (which has to be redone from scratch on the upgrades), and uses many non standard features of vBulletin and plugins.

When the upgrade happens, it takes a little time to get back to the stability and familiarity that we all know.

The Thanks feature is back (very recent) and I am sure all of the other cool things will be back and the theme will be tweaked until it is finished.
