I just finished customizing my new 8.04 desktop and have a really gorgeous dark theme to go with my compiz cube. Unfortunately, when I open open office, it's terrible. All of the icons are gone and it is rendered almost useless in a practical sense. Any ideas how to make Open Office run in a default mode (like Human theme or something) and leave everything else as it is?

You could give AbiWord a try... as a last resort. Assuming the value of the theme outweighs the utility of Open Office.

Open it up and go into Tools -> Options -> View.
Pick on your icon size "small" and style "human".
Now, go to "appearance" and set document background to "white" and font color to "black".
That should fix things up fine. I've used dark themes from Neutronium Deepblack to my current Elegant Mine and it works great.

Glad to help! I know the OOo is one of those things that makes dark themes a pain. I'm not sure if that works for EVERYTHING, but I only use Writer, so it fixes all I need it for. :lolflag:
