empty screen

So I downloaded my ISO and tried ubuntu in demo mode on my laptop.
However after the loading screen (the orange bar) my screen just gets black.

I tried my cd on my desktop and there I had no troubles and I could use ubuntu.

However I don't want to use ubuntu on my desktop, I want to use it on my laptop.

I wonder why my screen stays black.
My laptop has a Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller

It's maximum is 1280 x 768 x 60 Hz (= widescreen)

Does anyone know why my screen stays black?
Can I use certain parameter at boot time to try and prevent this?

run it in safe graphics mode

Thank you, I selected safe mode at boot and now it worked.

However is there a way to select to my full resolution now?
(1280 x 768)
The only options I get are 640*480 and 800*600
