of late i was running ubuntu ultimate 1.7,until i had the queer idea of totally formatting my system and starting afresh, and i did it.but, this time when it installed ubuntu ultimate 1.7,i faced some problems.first,i was reminded during installation that some packages are broken and couldn't be installed.how do i solve this?my another problem is that none of my drives,i.e sda1,etc. are appearing on the desktop, and i can't access the contents.during installation,it had very well detected all the partitions on my system.how do i solve this problem?
moreover,i also want to upgrade directly to hardy.is it possible that all this gets fixed if i upgrade to hardy along with the retention of all the goodies that this ultimate(based on gutsy) has?as far as i know the ultimate edition is based on kubuntu 7.10.so should i choose kubuntu 8.04 for an upgrade?

Boot up the cd and go down to check cd for defects. It may be bad now which is why you had the problems that you did.
