I want to resuscitate an old system of mine running Windows XP to Ubuntu. I have an Asus PG5D1 motherboard I will likely have to replace; I have a P4/3.0 and 1 GB of DDR memory available plus a few cards--video, sound, etc.
I don't want to spend a fortune on this so I am looking at some cheap motherboards that still support the DDR memory I have. Two I have focused on are the Foxconn 661FX7MJ-RS, which runs under $30, and an Abit IP-95, which is about ten dollars more.
Both seem to have lots of negative comment, particularly the Foxconn, but if I have to switch the motherboard to set this system up, then obviously I am looking for the most stable board I can get at a decent price.
Any comment on these or suggestions for any others would be appreciated. Thank you.
