So I have Hardy Herdon on my laptop.
First of all congratulations for the developers! They did a great job!

But ATI doesn't work well..

If I use the fglrx the videoplayback is terrible. It's lagging and the resolution is low... FF3 is also slow... But I got Compiz!
If I choose ati instead of fglrx I got a fast FF3 and a beautiful videoplayback. But no Compiz...

What's the solution?

Did you use the hardware manager to install your driver? That driver should do all you need, at least I think

I'm using a crappy ATI x1400, video playback + Compiz is fine, however games+ compiz= choppy. Just so you dont go mad until a fix comes your way, use fusion-icon..it'll let ya switch compiz on and off from your desktop. good luck

This thread here helped me get it to work. I have an ATI Radeon 9000 on an IBM Thinkpad T40.

If you are using the 'ati' driver, 3D acceleration is not enabled. To enable it follow this tutorial

& then use this tutorial to improve performance
