First of all, thank you to everyone that worked on getting this 8.04 hardy heron release to us.

Why is there no official torrent for the release? It seems like it really should be the way of the future.

We can do an MD5 checksum after the download is complete to ensure file integrity...

Thanks for the links.

Why didn't the main website mention using torrents in a more prominent position?

Also, why didn't these torrents appear in search for ubuntu 8.04 on isohunt.com?

Probably because they weren't uploaded to isoHunt yet. ISO's are up on TPB, isoHunt, and Demonoid as of now. I haven't checked mininova yet, but if its at those other three, it's there too.

You would think it would be. As of right now the link is kind of almost hidden away from the user. For all the pressure being put on their servers one would think they would offer that as the primary option. Maybe their thinking is that most new Ubuntu users don't know what torrents are? Who knows.

I personally would not download anything from isohunt, some one could easily modify the Ubuntu iso before uploading,I would only trust the official download which is why I download Ubuntu using the FTP server.

I did not know there had an official Ubuntu torrent,I would have downloaded and seeded it if I knew.

I wonder why people who went to so much trouble to create the torrent didn't get the torrents onto isohunt.com

... this would have been the first thing I would have done... Perhaps they are in the process right now...

Bingo!! Ubuntu is targeting the average pc user. Most know nothing of torrent.

Just verify the MD5SUM with the one listed on Ubuntu's site. But yes, I only use the torrent listed on the Ubuntu site.

I used torrents and was very quick. I have listed the steps I followed here: http://ptcbus.blogspot.com/2008/04/upgrading-from-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon.html
