I setup a laptop for my father for his trips to Europe. It is an old Dell Latitude (sorry I can't remember the number) which I installed a WIFI card in. I loaded the laptop with Ubuntu 7.10 and tested the WIFI and it worked (even with encryption). When my dad got to Italy he tried it out and couldn't connect to the public access WIFI in the hotel he was staying in. The same thing happened again in Spain and England. When he got back to Canada the WIFI work on his home network. What could be wrong and how do I fix it for him?

Extra info that may help:
I know that the regional settings are set to Saskatchewan, Canada. The WIFI card comes from the US.
