Gnome Look would be a start, try looking around the forums, the search option is really useful. :)

The themes have to correspond to the window manager you are running or something like that. Have you tried both Metacity and GTK 2.x themes?

Just a summary:

Gtk2 themes is what you want. Those change the look and feel of basically everything except for icons, window border and mouse. They are in a tar.gz archive, and inside them there should be a folder with the themes name on. You can drag the tar.gz archive into System>Preferences>Appearance or click the install button.

Icon themes changes the look of your icons. They install the same way as with Gtk2 themes.

Mouse themes most be unpacked, then put the folder inside /home/username/.icons

To install fonts, you most create a directory called ".fonts" in your home folder. Just drag the font files (.ttf) inside it.

To use those installed themes, simply click customize and any of Controls/Colours/Icons/Mouse tabs to change the theme. To change fonts, Use the "Fonts" tab i Appearance.

Note that all directories/files with a "." in front of it are hidden. Press <Control>+h to show hidden files.
