this site has a weird thing under your name in the post saying something like 'first cup of ubuntu' or 'chocolate covered beans'. i was just wondering, how do you get from 'first cup of ubuntu' to the next stage?

There is a Guide to Forum Features in this forum.
Beans don't mean anything, so don't judge people by them. popch has a lot more skill and experience in many areas than I, yet I have the beans.

9/10 it is:
Read the sticky
See the wiki (ubuntu, mine, whatever)
sudo aptitude build-essential
See the sticky (because sometimes they don't get it the first time I say it)
Go to System->Administration->Software sources and uncheck the CD and try again.
