Hi, I have a PS3 and I'm looking into getting a bluray burner for my Linux box. I don't care about playback on the PC so much right now, but I was wondering if its possible for me to make backups of my bluray movies?

I know I can rip them to a HDD with the PS3, so that shouldn't be a problem, but beyond that I'm clueless. I don't wanna drop the money on a bluray burner if it won't do what I want under the system I want to use.

Thanks!

You can dump blu-ray discs to file assuming you have a blu-ray drive in your Ubuntu box

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/BluRayAndHDDVD

However, since DRM is a maniditory feature of Blu-Ray, you can burn it with any FOSS. I would assume though that if you ripped the file and pointed your PS3 to the share drive, that it would play fine, perhaps faster, than if the disc were in the PS3.
