Hi Everyone,

I am only new to ubuntu, and I am really impressed with motion.

I am trying to get a bit of a workplace prank going, where all I need is motion to do is detect movement, and play a sound. So I have this in the config:

on_motion_detected mpg123 /path/to/file.mp3

(The real path is massive, I have cut it down for this post)

I have tried putting a &> error.txt , and the file is created, but nothing goes into it. I have tried this using the motion account, and it works and plays, I have done it from a pleb account through a ssh session and it works.

Any Ideas?

Hi there and thanks for your question...

Sorry it took so long. Posts pile up pretty fast in this section of the forum.

Are you still trying to solve this issue? If you have, we'd love to know the outcome.

If you still need help, I can help you find some, so just post back.

Thanks,

ZabiGG

Hi There,

Yes I am still looking for a answer, but I haven't tried for a week or so. If there is any help, I would gladly accept it :)

Maybe you should also post this in the Multimedia section of the forum? (That way you might get info from true multimedia buffs)

If you get an answer, please post back with your results ;)

Thanks,
