accessing Samba's shared folders from Windows?

Hi, so I'm trying to share some folders from my Ubuntu 7.10 laptop with my Windows XP SP2 desktop, but when I try to access the folders, Windows asks me for a user name and a password. I tried my Ubuntu user name and pw with no luck. I even tried the root user and I created a different user to try, but still not working:( help please!!

you might have not added a samba username.. try by following these steps and then rebooting samba http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Gutsy#How_to_install_Samba_Server_for_files .2Ffolders_sharing_service
