I hope this is temporary and that the forum will return to its previous "snappiness" soon. So far I have found it quite a bit slower trhan the previous incarnation.
Anybody else notice the same thing?

The server load spiked when it came back online, and it has been high for a while. It will soon go back to normal probably.
It has sped up for me already.

The connection refused errors were when the forums were offline for some tweaking. I just took a peek at the load, and it's returning to "normal." (Notice the quotes there. ;)) Ubuntu-geek has been making changes over the past 24 hours to help speed up the site overall.

Yeah, it was a server and database issue. ubuntu-geek fixed it and did some tweaking.

I wonder if the tweak old forums had to speed up searches (I remember some complex addon was in use) is kept, else the forums won't scale correctly and be very slow within time.

Yep, it's back to its usual speed. One of the reasons I love this forum; it's really snappy.
I guess I should mark this thread as "solved" :-)
