hide app in a panel

I have searched the forums and I'm pretty sure what I'm looking for I first saw here but anyways I was wondering how I can take a program(the Pownce app) and hide it in a panel. Its like a drawer only it has the program running all the time and when you open it, it has the program ready to use.
Anybody know what I'm talking about?
