Install over network help please?!

hi, can anyone tell me how i can install over network?
do i have to make a network image or something?
and should i start downloading ubuntu "server" edition?

does this thing create another separate ubuntu partition on the hard drive? like another os....
coz i don't wanna have to back up stuff that i've got on this ubuntu pc :/
