View Full Version : [ubuntu] HDA Intel Microphone Problem

Hi everyone. This is my first post here.

I've got an HP Pavilion DV6614tx laptop, which has the following inbuilt sound card:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

I'm running 32-bit Hardy Heron with all packages up to date and in particular ALSA 1.0.15-3ubuntu4, which I believe is the latest version. Sound playback works fine, but nothing I do seems to fix the microphone. I've tried heaps of Howtos on similar problems that I've found by googling, but none of them worked for me (apparently they worked for others).

When I record in Audacity I get nothing, and in sound recorder, I get the following bizarre results: http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~brewer/whatever.ogg

I've tried running alsamixer to make sure everything is unmuted, and this has no effect. This is frustrating because I only keep my Windows partition for Skype and sound recording, and would free up a lot of space if I could get rid of it.

Thanks for your help.

Same problem. My Indel HDA microphone stopped working after upgrading to hardy. It was perfect in Gutsy.
