I was thinking about building a machine for recording programs (all analogue PAL), playing my music, and playing movies (from DVD and from HD).

I was thinking about using the hauppauge PVR-350 as my video capture card. Is there any inherent problems in using another card (was thinking about using some kind of nvidia card with HDMI out) to send video/audio to my reciever?

Can mythtv forward information from the capture card to the video card at the same time as I am using the video capture card to record a program? (most likely on another channel)

The PVR350 is a great card. If you already own it fine. If you have a powerful pc and intend on using an hdmi out vid card, a pvr150 will be just fine. The difference is the pvr350 can output directly, not using the video card, via composite or svideo. If you don't need this option you can save money on the pvr150.

Not sure what you mean here. you can capture only one channel at a time. One per tuner, unless you have a dual tuner. The pvr150/250/350 are single tuners vs pvr500 dual tuners. You can record a program while watching a previously recorded program.

I realize that I was being a bit cryptic. What I was thinking about is what you described, using 2 tuners to capture on one channel while watching the other.

If got a pvr150 and a cheap pinnacle 150 (don't but a pinnacle 150 ;) )

With this setup I can record 2 channels while watching a previous recording.

The more capture cards you have the more channels you can record at the same time (ignoring hardware speed issues)
