Hi All,
Can you do an upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 or do you have to do a complete re-install? It would be great if you could do an upgrade like you can with normal Ubuntu ....
Thanks.

I'll be interested in the responses to your question - currently have 7.10 installed on my laptop - no problems & happy - guess the first question is whether there is a need to update (of course, depending on additional 'new' or 'better' features that you may need or want?)?
Fairly new to Ubuntu, but I would assume that the newest version will install over 7.10 preserving your data & settings - not sure if this is true or the 'best' option, but will await posts from others! :)

Yes, you can do the normal upgrade using update-manager. As long as you have mythbuntu-desktop installed (which it will be unless you manually removed it), the new dependencies will be sorted out via update-manager.

As far as wether it is worth it, the release notes for MythTV 0.21 (which is in 8.04) is listed here:

Depends on what you do with your machine, I most like the new feature to keep playing music in the background. I notice there is also a reduction in memory usage fo frontends and some new plugins. I would recommend it, not withstanding the issues I am currently having with xmlTVNZ&mythfilldatabase:

Well not to mention other features that come beside mythtv 0.21, all of the update artwork, bug fixes, diskless server support, newer versions of mplayer, vlc, xine, totem/mythtv support.
The list goes on, and don't forget that we get all the new Ubuntu 8.04 changes too.
