Hey I have just recently installed 8.04 Beta, but notice that the Release Candidate has been released, and includes the update:
'MythTV knows how to send shutdown and restart commands via dbus/hal'
I am not actualy sure exactly what this means but I do know I want to attempt to get auto wakeup/shutdown working on my machine tommorow and this may be helpful.
So my main question is do I need to re-install the RC image to get this upgrade or can I get it through update manager? And for that matter, can I go the the full release when it is avaliable without a re-install?

It means that you don't have to mess with sudo in order to reboot your computer :). Since you already have an install, you need to edit the shutdown command manually. Enter "/usr/share/mythtv/myth-halt.sh", or myth-reboot.sh or myth-suspend.sh or myth-hibernate.sh...

update-manager should be good enough. Same for the full release.

That sounds great. Two things:
1) The above is all I need to do to get the box to suspend automatically? I assume waking up requires more work though.
2) How do I know when then the updates have happened. I upgraded some stuff this morning so I take I have the new features? I guess I can only try your suggestion.

No, you need to change more things to enable automatic shutdown. There is some documentation out there, for a combined FE/BE box I suggest mythwelcome (and its documentation).

If it doesn't list any updates, you should be up to date. I don't expect many updates these days because the archives are frozen, ie no new uploads without a very good reason,

Disregard this post.....mistakenly thought the person wasn't using MythTV, though I was in the absolute beginner forum :lolflag:
