View Full Version : Audigy 2 Sound Blaster/Creative Driver Crashing Vista

Please help me with this dilemma: as soon as Vista upgrades the driver for my Audigy 2 Sound Blaster card, I get a blue screen of death. My computer shuts down, then restarts, then shuts down, then restarts.
I have to go into Safe Mode to remove the driver in order to get this to stop. However, this gives me no sound.
This is really weird because before I reinstalled Vista everything was working in top form, Creative drivers and everything.
I have a feeling this is being caused by a Microsoft update, but how the heck do I know which one?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

hi, see if you can download the latest drivers from here:
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
once downloaded and installed, set a restore point if they run ok, in case ms tries to spoil your system again.

personally, i would turn off automatic updates, and just check the update page regularly, and only download security fixes. looks like vista and driver problems are turning out to be a 'long term' thing!

best of luck

ps: sorry, that is a uk link, this link may be better: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

Thanks for your feedback, but I've already tried the link you've provided me, and it also causes my system to crash. It appears there's a problem with one of the automatic updates that comes with Windows Vista. However, because I have done a fresh install, I just don't know which one...
I had everything working fine before, but when I decided to reinstall Vista just to clean up my system, now everything is out of whack.
Should I uninstall all of the updates and see if I can install the Creative driver?

have a look at this link:http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/04/daniel_k-who-fi.html
this guy brought out some modded drivers, there is a link to them on the above page, maybe your card will work better with those if available for your card.

also, have you installed servicepack1 yet, i believe that is supposed to rectify some hardware problems(!):
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb738089.aspx

i don't use vista myself, so wouldn't really know how easy, or difficult, it is to track down a single particular pesky update, and i suppose if the updates are numerous, this could take a long time!

i wouldn't like to advise you to uninstall all of the updates, especially as some of these might be security issues to stop your machine being compromised, though with xp update, if done manually, you could opt just for security (or crucial/essential?) updates, rather then everything else. i don't know if you may have the same option manually updating vista. if so, perhaps try this.

best of luck
