Well, my laptop is running vista (though you'd never recognize the vista'ness) and I'm using it a lot for school and such...

However, my desktop PC isn't being used to anything other than collecting dust...

Well... I played WoW on it ages ago, but I got bored of WoW fairly quickly... and now I just saw something called Linux Elive or something, which had tons of eye candy popping up everywhere. Then it struck me, I wanna use my PC for the most utter imba hax0r eye candy possible!

Which OS (and I assume all linux OS are free?) brims with eye candy?

Dream Linux (http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/) comes to mind when i think of Distros w/ heavy doses of eye-candy.

Dream is pretty good, so is Linux mint.
Mint has practically the best looking gnome out of the box

And are they both easy to use? I'm a windows user :)

I would say they are both easy, try both and see for yourself.

Linux mint is very easy as it comes with codecs and flash by default...
I never gave dream a spin so I cant say much on it

I've never got why people say Mint looks that great. It just looks like any other gnome distro to me with customizations. Dreamlinux looks great though, probably the best out of the box distro I've seen.

That said if you are a new user I'd stick with Mint. Since it's basically Ubuntu you are going to get much better support than with Dreamlinux.

Dream Linux or Linux Mint
I would go for Dream Linux though since it comes with any eye candy you truly need.Plus that extra kick in the butt more :).

gOS space is nice with awn dock, just delete the links and add a new theme and change around the gnome-panel a little and tada, you have a sexy distro, although you'll need a good graphics card to run awn dock

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned PCLinuxOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCLinuxOS)

Its not that I hate it, but I think Pc Linux sucks no offence. Though it makes windows users comfortable, which I think is awesoem.

Personally, I can't stand how PCLinuxOS looks either, but if you're looking for something Windows-like, you just can't go wrong with it. Since you seem to be looking for something similar to Windows, I would recommend that first. DreamLinux looks awesome, but I've never had success in installing it.

well its gnome is better then the current Ubuntu's for starters, it actually a bit lighter in some areas.
But it will have compitition once hardy comes out, hardys new murrine theme is quite nice looking

I second Sabayon. It comes with Compiz Fusion and all binary drivers out of the box and is nicely done. They have a Live CD, so checking it out is as easy as downloading the ISO and burning it. :) http://www.sabayonlinux.org/

Anything with E17 (gOS). It's a really nice looking DTE and you can use animated backgrounds on it.

ive never been able to install it either. (tried on 3 machines) it is an awesome live cd, but until the installer issues are fixed, i wont be recommending it for people to install.

My desktop PC can play WoW, does that mean it's able to handle the eye candy?

Yes, it should be.

Well you any good Linux distro I would suggest having 1gb ram.Ofcourse that is just me.Alot of them can be used with just 256mb.

The eye-candy isn't actually as demanding on the hardware as it may seem. This isn't Vista. ;) In general, you can make any Linux distro look good, it just takes some effort. Something like this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=lawkc3jH3ws) takes some work (less now, if you have the background images), but it doesn't require the latest hardware (note how the video is almost two years old).

O_O awesome

Why can't anyone make compiz for windows? All the cubes for windows are either slow, or they only work on 1 side, and they eat more memory than vista

Oh and

Vista OSX
LiteStep
glasstoast
Yodm3D
YzShadow
TopDesk
RocketDock
Leftsider
VistaGlazz
Visual Tooltips
Vista Styler
Cube Desktop
Deskspace
Windowfx

That's all the make-vista-look-less-like-vista programs I've managed to find in the last couple of weeks

Because the source is not open and you can't just replace the GUI manager in Vista the way you can in Linux. It's a fundamentally different, and less modular, concept. Part of the trouble is that Vista by itself uses so much of the resources already. It drives hardware sales and indirectly hardware evolution, though it's sort of silly that some people buy new computers just for the OS, even though their every day computer usage wouldn't require it at all. Gnome and KDE aren't exactly suited for really old computers either, but the stuff you saw in the video works perfectly fine with 1 GB RAM and a several years old video card.

Dude I have eye candy on a machine with a 1.1Ghz processor and 32mb of video ram (Nvidia Mobile GeForce 4 solution); I also have it turned on with an Athlon 1800+ and a GeForce 4000MX w/ 64mb of video ram.

Yeah, if your rig can handle WoW you should be able to sport Compiz-Fusion just fine.

My old hp nx6610 laptop with 1.4GHz Celeron, 512MB Ram & Interated Intel gfx also does compiz-fusion just fine, it's not lightning fast like my desktop but not a pain at all. Now that I have said that I would also like to add that I DON'T use compiz-fusion as it is just a distraction and serves very little purpose for me.

You should rather give us the specs, CPU&Clock speed, RAM, GFX Card&RAM.

Any Distro with Evolution is very visually enticing. The two most prominent in my mind are, OzOS (Ubuntu Based) and the newest release of Elive (Debian Based).

Thanks all, for the kind works on OzOS looks (i was thinking in change it, but start to wonder if i should...)

On topic. My 2 ct.
The question it's not the Linux (distro) that it's more eye candy but the Desktop Environment. Any DE from a distro can be tuned to look the same way as other distro implement it.

Just pick the DE (or SE/WM) you think it looks more appealing on the distro you feel more comfortable with system management and better support for your hardware.

I edit my post for typos and instead of editing it created a new duplicated!

I have to throw out Ultimate Edition. I love the themes that are used. Of course I made the red theme so I may be a little biased. 1.8 edition is looking really nice as well. Check my sig for the link.
