Linux Mint Daryna, first booting up, I straight away knew it was something different to all the others, Green interface, once logged in, it seemed quite quicker then Ubuntu generally, although Linux Mint was a distro based on Ubuntu, the menu I espicially love, opening up the Daryna menu, it's something people are more familiar with and is great, but IMO, it is a bit vista like, I especially like the search feature in the menu, I think the idea was originated from Vista (no offense)
I ran the install, connected to the internet, the install was blazing fast, faster then Ubuntu by a little bit and only took 10 minutes, which was a really quick time.
I start up firefox to my surprise, Flash, Java and other add-on's already pre-installed.
It's great how the Linux Mint think about drivers and how people want things to "just work"
I tried installing ATi drivers, and I didn't have to go to software sources at all, same with avant window manager, no trouble or hassle.
Envy was also already installed too, although many of the drivers were already pre-installed and coded by Linux community.
On first logon I was greeted with a welcome and options to turn on and off, and whenever I open the terminal, it gives me smart remarks the make me laugh, Linux Mint is worth a install, if you don't have time for Ubuntu, but as I usually say, Ubuntu all the way! no matter what, Ubuntu is my first system, Linux Mint now second, Windows Last.

neat. I've heard good things about lm, it looks like a good distro. I know it has a group of regular followers. Linux-mint is also said to be very very good at becoming a media station.

I installed Mint Daryna on a computer that was to be given to someone with no prior experience of Linux (as a possible alternative to Win XP also installed on it). It's a very nice distro, but their slogan "From Freedom Came Elegance" is just the tackiest, most pretentious thing ever!!! And you can't get rid of it!!! It's everywhere, hurting one's eyes and soul -- on the grub background, on the splash, GDM theme, wallpaper -- everywhere. What were they thinking?
Maybe it's just my sense of aesthetics but personally I couldn't take it :) I had to apologize to the person who got that computer and explain that my rationale for installing Mint had nothing to do with either freedom or elegance or some byproduct of the two.

Yet, that slogan IMHO is very annoying indeed, just customize grub and others.

I like the slogan, a lot of thought went into it.

I love Mint
I have been struggling to learn to live without Windows for 7 years. I still feel like a newbie in Linux. Linux is MUCH easier for newbies. I have a neighbor who I gave a spare laptop to and I installed Mint without Windows. We live on a mountain and the internet connection is via mobile phone modem. Windows would have emptied her pocketbook with all their automatic internet connections and destroyed my patience and her morale with their complexities and inefficiencies. She know NOTHING about computers. Now she is happily surfing and emailing and writing and I never hear from her with problems.
I recommend Mint for ANYONE who is new to computers, especially the elderly.
I also have Ubuntu and I use it occasionally, and it forces me to learn more about Linux.
I WOULD like to see Ubuntu getting a bit more creative and courageous when dealing with the capitalistic cyber-bullies. This is also a BIG advantage of Mint; they seem to have dealt intelligently and bravely and very effectively with the cyber-bullies, making Mint much more hassle-free than most distributions.
The fact that the laws are different in different countries, I think allows the option of designing the operating system for everyone and placing the responsibility for adhering to the laws of your particular country in the consumer's lap, which is where it belongs.
One main difference is the Mint Forum. I use the Ubuntu forum for 90% of my support needs, and I really am grateful for it. The Mint forum is, however very helpful for Mint issues, and it is much like a small family.

Yeah, it's pretty good. I keep it around, and have used it to convince two of my friends to set up a dual-boot for 'em. It's easier to convince them if they can see for themselves just how easy it is.
I personally like Ubuntu better. Linux Mint is fat :-). But then that's just how I feel. And, I think it's a great introduction to Linux. Whether it's Mint, or Puppy, or Arch or whatever, it doesn't matter. It's still Linux.
The more the merrier :-)

What impressed me about it is how it was able to play my music, and dvd's without my help.

I don't know, usually only worried parents talk about 'cyber-bullies', who ruin their fragile childrens' egos...

I tried it out last week, and I can answer the first two questions with absolute certainty. The answer is yes.
As for the 3rd question, I'm not sure that it comes with compiz, however it uses the ubuntu repos, so I'm sure that if it doesn't come with it, it can be easily added.
I think mint is a great distribution. To me, it is very elegant in its simplicity. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, you will have no trouble adapting to Mint.

Well I went off to distrowatch to look for download links on this and found one.I used the Live cd and well I was impressed pretty much.
I had to try twice though before it liked me :(.After that I got everything I needed.Only thing was it didn't have the updated compizfusion like dream linux has :(.Other then that it had my buddy terminal and my favorite toy package manager.
I was surprised with everything it came with aswell I mean heck coming with all java setups, adobe,a few extra music tools, and that nice searchbar.
I also like how many backgrounds it gives you by default.
So yeah I would say mint is a worthy replacement over ubuntu.
That is if you do not like downloading much.In my case I do not mind so I will use Linux mint to suggest to people :).Or I will suggest PClinuxOS :).(yes I still love her :p).

I've been using Daryna for a few months now. Great distro! It's become one of my favorites. Nice community, nice vision. Definitely one I'd recommend.
