I have loaded wine via Synaptic and when placing the Serif CD and attempting to get the program to start I get the attached error. Now it's highly likely this software may not run under wine but I thought I would give it a try. If anyone has had some success or offer some help it would be appreciated.

I couldn't get WebPlus or PagePlus to work under Wine. (I actually got WebPlus 10 to run, but nothing worked once it was running). In the end I have installed XP as a virtualbox to use these apps when I need them.

I am also playing with NVU http://nvudev.com/ as an alternative to webplus.

I use Scribus instead of PagePlus for most things.

Hope this helps, in a doesn't help kinda way!

Thanks for your reply kneewax, like yourself I did not get any satisfaction under wine.
I have created a simple web page with NVU?Kompozer but It does not compare with Serif Webplus.
Oh! Well! I will just have to improve with Kompozer!!
I have a PC with XP and Serif installed so no big deal. It would have been nice to achieve similar results and ease within Linux. But hey! I paid for Serif, and NVU/Kompozer is 'FREE' so congrats to the authors of the FREE software.

Well, it's been nearly two years since this thread was started and I see that there has been no progress with wine as the problem is exactly the same now as it was then.

Kompozer/NVU still isn't good enough for the job and wine still doesn't get past install.exe.

Shame, as as far as I can see web page authoring is the only thing that lets Linux down.

Hi Fitch

Thanks for posting this info

I have a "paid for" version of serif Webplus X4 and was just about to give it a try under wine - So you have saved me the trouble - thanks

Guess I will have to continue to dual boot with XP

It would be worth checking. Between the above posters comment that there has been no progress there was some work done to fix a crash in Webplus X2. You'll need to test with wine-1.2-rc3.

Failing that, you can always have a look into a virtual machine. Programs like Virtual Box allow you to run any VMs "seamlessly". I had a quick dig around and found this demo video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT33dAGRXIc.

There will also most likely be a host of forum threads covering this topic too.

No problem :).

I found a tutorial on YouTube for setting Windows up with Virtual Box (I find videos easier to follow than text): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4EYYosQo_I.

I think the basic jist is: -

1. Download/install VBox
2. Create a Windows Virtual Machine.
3. Put XP disc in tray and let it boot newly created VM. Then allow Windows to boot into installer on the VM and treat it as you would do a normal Windows installer.
4. Have fun :).

I haven't tested this myself, so I can't really give you much insight as to what kind of problems you might encounter, but there is a whole forum dedicated to the subject: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=308

Hi

Thanks for the link to the tutorial

Asdfoo suggested an update...

Webplus X2 and Wine 1.3: On installation (right clicking setup.exe and selecting Open with Wine loader") I get the window below:

So not much further on...
