Ogre 3D [http://www.ogre3d.org/] is a scene-oriented, flexible 3D engine. In its homepage you can download SDK for Windows, but it's very bothersome to install it in Linux, especially in Ubuntu. It would be nice to have Ogre in the repository.
It's not a high priority idea, I know, but it's an idea.

Yeah, we need to give game developers as much, help and encouragement as possible. I am currently in the idea stages of a game and plan to use linux (and ogre3d) as my primary platforms ( probably my only platform. none of the cross-platform crap, Windows has enough games already, Myabe macosx though)

Cross platform is the only way to go. If you limit your game to just Linux youre no better than the Windows guys. Besides, having to write code for multiple platforms makes your code quality better ;)

Seems interesting. Will pull it down and have a play with it. Can you let me know exactly what is difficult about compiling/installing under Ubuntu?

Dependencies, perhaps? The NVidia Cg libraries/language, for one - not sure how it's licensing terms would allow for easy inclusion with Ubuntu.

Ogre3d is what my company (kruel studios) will be using for cross platform development. Along with it a lot of other projects, we are also using CEGUI which works great with Ogre.

There's more than just a few dependancies, and it's quite fun to get working under AMD64 from the little tinker i've had.

It'd be much appreciated if some Ogre3D packages could be created, along with CEGUI ones. That would save us redoing work that would be better done in a centralised fashion, and focus on making a game rather than fighting with libraries.

According to the wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UniverseCandidates , Ogre is beig packaged ... but, right, the packager don't seem very active ...

A good tool to develop multi-platform games : lwjgl, very nice lib to develop games in java.

Anything that helps LInux game dev. Ogre has a really good reputation, here's my vote for it. :)
