HI All

Sorry for asking somewhat similar questions, which are already present on many of the other threads but I probed to solve my problem using the solutions provided there but still the results were futile.

I have installed avant window navigator, and when I click it to run, it wouldn't. A small window will appear and disappear within few seconds. I have installed Compiz and Emerald but couldn't get AWN running.

When I go to System > System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual effects, at the moment "none" is selected. When I try enabling any other option, my screen flicks for a while and than I get an error message saying that "desktop effects cannot be enabled".

Below is output of command: compiz --replace

~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
No whitelisted driver found
SKIP_CHECKS is yes, so continuing despite problems.
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: present.
Comparing resolution (1152x864) to maximum 3D texture size (2048): Passed.
Checking for nVidia: not present.
Checking for FBConfig: present.
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Starting emerald
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

I have spent hours tweaking for AWN to run, but no luck!

Thanks

What is your graphics card and did you enable the restricted drivers?

My motherboard is using an onboard intel graphics card, and yes I have enables restricted drivers.

glxinfo
See if anything looks out of place with that command.

Edit: It appears all is right although you do not have a whitelisted driver.

No you do not have direct rendering supported. See if this command works.

I am not sure why but even with your drivers you do not have direct rendering. I think I have an idea what to do let me do some research.

Thanks so much. I might sound naive here but what's the purpose of 'rendering'?

Appreciate your help.
