After 1 and half years since the last Gfire release, version 0.6. A new dev team has taken over Gfire from Asraniel. They have created the new version, 0.7.0. The new website is now at, gfire.edhewitt.co.uk. (http://gfire.edhewitt.co.uk) The old web address will be redirected to here shortly.
For anyone who doesn't know what Gfire is, its basically a plugin for pidgin, which allows you to connect to the xfire network.

It's nice, but Sourceforge still has 0.6, and I already have that.

I run the latest gfire snapshot on 64-bit Gutsy. The number one thing I would like to see is an easy way to set up gfire to detect games.
Native games foremost, like Savage 2, UT2004, Doom 3, e.g.
Then possibly games running in wine.
I wouldn't mind a quick setup via a GUI where you input the path to the game or something. As it is, having the .ingame file is pretty annoying.

Thanks for the feedback, cappy. I will let the rest of the team know and see what we could do about it for a future release.

Yeh, the installer works with any debian based system. Gfire 0.7.0 can be downloaded as a deb, rpm or source.
It has been tested fully with Ubuntu 7.10 & 8.04

Finally, the latest version of Gfire is out. 0.7.0 has a host of new feature, such as better Pidgin support, better ingame support and "About" window.
You can download Gfire 0.7.0 from here (http://gfire.edhewitt.co.uk), as source code, deb file or rpm file.

I compiled it but it would be nice to have a 64bit deb because i had to install 40megs worth of stuff (pidgin-dev and its dependency's) to build it :(

Fain, we will see if it would be possible to support 64bit, but with such a small dev team its hard to. We are still having trouble getting an exe file created.

I am by far from complaining sorry if it came out that way. i seriously thank you guys for keeping this plugin alive. I use it every day. i can deal with 40mb of almost wasted space, i would like to make a deb for it my self but first i need to learn how :P

There is an x64 deb package floating around the internet. I had it yesterday but then I removed a symlink to bash and totally wiped my system :/

i've installed it but no xfire in my accounts. maybe it doesn't work in pidgin 2.4.2

Well it works fine here in 2.4.1.
I know it sounds patronising, but install it while pidgin is not running (check processes) and then start pidgin after it's installed...

I hate to ask, but im on Fedora 9 x86_64 and the rpm is i586. Now i don't demand a fc9.x86_64.rpm but a src.rpm would be awesome :guitar:
I tried the source with ./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64 which was sufficient for 0.6.0 gfire but owell.

Nuckinfux, the rpm should work fine on i386 systems. It has been tested on opensuse, but not sure about ferdora.
kindofabuzz, I have not tested Gfire on 2.4.2, but I will see if any members of the Gfire dev team have.

The link is not working for me, according to the blog there, it's http://edhewitt.co.uk/gfire/

Its nice to see that Gfire is back. I always liked this when I used Arch, glad to see some work is actually coming out of the project. Viva la FLOSS :)

the i586 RPM does not work on either Fedora 8 x86_64 or Fedora 9 x86_64 (yes i downgraded :lolflag: )
compiled from source with arguments:
./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64
(at this point there are lots of hoops to jump through, ie installing 64bit devel libraries)
eventually make and make install worked with 64-bit Pidgin
I have to be a slight nay sayer with 5 differences to the changelog over 0.6.1 and the more than 5 added libraries to the mix.
I ./configure 0.6.1(20071109 Snapshot) side by side with 0.7.0, so thats how i got the differences in number of libraries.
And finally, a src.rpm would be awesome :)
(then its just rmpbuild --rebuild)
