So I used Ubuntu a year ago for a few months. I loved how it felt and was happy with it until I had to start programming with MS Studio. I hated rebooting into windows every time I wanted to program, so I just uninstalled Linux and stuck with Windows. Well, I haven't been doing much programming lately. Not much gaming either. My home PC has mainly been used to surf the web and do some web coding, maybe write some papers here and there.

So now is the time for me to reinstall Ubuntu. I'll be throwing 7.10 on tonight, but I've never customized. Last time I just ran stock. Since I'll be on a pretty powerful rig (q6600 @ 3.0, 8800GTX, 2GB DDR2), I'd like to just load it up. I'd like the eye candy + nerdy desktop mods showing stats and such.

So what are the essentials should I install to achieve all this? I've gotten a couple ideas from browsing the forums, but I'd like some personal opinions.

Thanks
