depends on what you are into. there are space, futuristic, fantasy. Each person has their own idea of the ideal game setting.
from a gameplay standpoint, I think WoW is really the leader everyone is trying to catch up to.

I used to really enjoy City of Heroes and City of Villains. Also, WoW is top notch as well, but it really depends on what you want from a game like that. If you don't want to spend 20+ hours a week playing the game and paying $15 a month to keep playing, you should check out Guild Wars. It's a great mmorpg and it has no continuing subscription fee. It looks like Guild Wars works in Cedega.

If you want a free one. Tibia works well enough. But yeah depends on what you're looking for.

Well obviously WoW is the leader in this category without a doubt. However, there are many alternatives that you may want to check out:
Everquest (really good!)
Lord of the Rings Online
EVE
Guild Wars Faction
City of Villains/Heroes
Its down to personal preference to be honest. Also look out for Age of Conan which looks really good. If you do choose to get one of these games then CLICK the LINK in my sig as you can get free membership/points for these games.

Everquest (really good!)
I might add that there are free EQ emulator servers out there with decent player bases.

It is not exactly a MMORPG, but you may want to check out Savage 2 (http://savage2.s2games.com/main.php). They have a 32- and 64-bit Linux client that works perfectly in Ubuntu. :) No monthly fees, you can try before you buy, and it is only $30 one time if you want to join.

horry,
As has been mentioned previously, it really does depend on what you're looking for so take this with a grain of salt. ;-)
Personally I've had a great time playing Everquest 2 and Guild Wars, but I've enjoyed each of them for different reasons.
EQ2 was a blast to play with my wife and friends. Sadly I no longer play due to time constraints. Graphics have been stressed over art, so the game requires a beefier system to run on than many others. You'll also have to play it on some version of Windows, so if you don't dual-boot you can toss it right out.
Guild Wars is much easier to play by yourself if you don't always have the time to find a group. If you start out with the Nightfall campaign you'll have access to NPCs called 'Heroes' which make solo play much easier than regular NPC 'henchmen'. Guild Wars does OK on Linux with WINE. The graphics aren't spectacular but aren't bad either; same for the art. The lack of a monthly fee is also nice.
While I have heard good things about EVE Online I have not tried it out. Unlike EQ2 and GW, EVE is a space-based MMO. EVE provides a Linux client. My understanding is that it is a customized WINE-wrapper. Skills are learned at a constant rate regardless of whether you're online or offline; that always sounded pretty sweet to me.
For me, the best MMO has always been the one that I'm playing with my friends. If you've got friends who're already playing something then go for that.

WOW (because it is the one I play it) is the best. I'm running through Wine 59 and WOW with 2.4 patch. I have a relatively powerful system. The game plays better and faster under Wine than XP (about 10 FPS faster) Now if I could just get my Logitech G15 keyboard to work the same way it works in XP I would truly be in heaven.

I would recommend WOW. WOW is the best and will be the best. Altought it has some bugs its still the best.

WoW is fairly shallow compared to previous MMORPGs, but that probably is the reason why it's so casual-gamer-friendly, at least before you get into raiding. Then it turns into a second job and utter tedium. It's that, or it's average and below-average equipment. Personally, I'd stay away from it. I sunk over two years into it, and I wish I could get those back. :)
