I have tried numerous times to get that Compiz desktop cube working. I have an Nvidia 8500 GT in my rig. But yes, I have enabled Desktop Cube, I have enabled cube rotation, and then I tried pressing ctrl-alt while clicking and dragging, but nothing happens. Everything else in Compiz works. What might be some solutions?

Do the other bindings work? Such as, Ctrl+Alt+Left or Right?

I am, of course, assuming you have the Rotate Cube plugin enabled.

I have the same problem
only here my pc will not allow ANY desktop effects to work
wen I right click on the desktop, and go change desktop background, and go to the visual effects tab, it will not allow me to select anything other than NONE (no effects)
im running a Acer Extensa 7620G with intel centrino core 2 duo 1.66,2GBram, ATI radeon HD 2400XT
currently dual booting vista and ubuntu using Super Grub Disk
please help, need to get my cube working

well, do you have proof compiz is even running?

run compiz --replace from the command line, and post the output. By default, the desktop wall is enabled I believe. But you'll know if compiz is running.

the other thing to consider (since you said that the other desktop effects are working - thus serving as proof that compiz is running) is open CCSM - > select "General Desktop Settings" then go to the "Desktop Size" tab and make sure that "Horizontal Virtual Size" is set to 4

Ahhh...sorry. Misread original post.
