What is the easiest way to resize the main partition in Ubuntu (ie, the one mounted at /). I tried GParted, but the option to resize that partition is greyed out. I'm running Ubuntu through VMWare on Leopard

The main reason for GParted to grey out a partition is because it is mounted and/or in use. Try setting VMWare to boot from the ubuntu install cd and run GParted from there.
