Which is really cool, I am so looking forward to eventually being able to use Haiku.

Yeah. I just built and installed it to my new "santa rosa" laptop. It booted up nicely, i could even set it to 1680x1050 (lcd screen running GF 8600GS) without any problems at all. Wired gigabit ethernet was functional as well, only my 4965agn wireless wasn't just there yet.
Unfortunately, my USB mouse wansn't working, probably because the touchpad was stealing the input event - and i am handicapped without my trusty old mouse!
If this gets fixed, along with support for HDA (ALC883 in my case) sound cards, i'll be all over it! :)

That's good to hear pelle.k, I'll have to get around to having a look at it. I don't use wireless or a notebook, so I may be lucky with my hardware.
When I do check it out I'll post a report. :-)

+1. I'd like to give it a shot, but I think I shall wait for something like an install ISO.

works on my laptop as well. If they fix wifi and acpi stuff then I will probably make the switch, it seems to be such a nice OS :)

I really like BeOS when it came out, I think it is time to try Haiko whe I have some spare time. How well does it work in a VM?

Pretty good. I've tried it qemu, but that was dog slow. Vmware was more like it. Virtualbox wouldn't even boot haiku.
The images you get from haiku daily builds are pretty small though. You'll have to find some modified image if you want to install extras onto it.

I've been looking forward to this for a while, I've used BeOS 5 Pro on a couple of old 233mHz PCs and thought it was pretty cool. Hopefully they'll somewhat update the GUI to make it a bit more modern.

I believe the plan for Haiku is for the first release to be fully compatible with BeOS, after that there are plans for taking Haiku in other directions, just what they are I don't know.

I tried the vmware image and it looked more like BEOS theme on Linux then the BEOS I remember.
