Wow. That's worse than Firefox under Windows, and that's saying something.

I don't really think, when it comes to browser choice, that numbers and benchmarks matter. User perception of lightness, speed, or ease of use are all that matter. It is the user, after all, who has to use the browser.

If some people like Opera, let them use Opera. If they like Firefox, let them use Firefox. There's no way anyone could convince me into using another browser besides my preferred one.

What version of Opera?? That looks like the results from the beta/alpha version of 9.5.

Thank Conky for that one. I saw my memory usage spike and went "hmmm, that's odd." Checked it out, saw that. I've NEVER had a browser take up that much space. Even FF in Windows stayed in the 300's.

aysiu, you're right, except I'm a laptop user. I need my browser to at least be somewhat light so my battery doesn't get annihilated, and 400+MB of RAM used is going to mess that up.

However, I should note, I'm typing this in Opera. I'm really giving it a shot this week, and even just installed the new weekly build (came out yesterday) after I took that screenshot. Maybe it'll be easier. On the plus side, GMail works again!

Opera is light on the qualities that go toward making a good browser.

Browsers aren't for Looks, they are for Usability!

Opera is set to use a certain amount of the installed RAM unless you manually change the memory settings.

It seems a little much however but you never said what pages that were opened. ;)

I have surfed with Opera 9.5 beta's and the memory usage has never gone over the 80mb mark...
