I recently did an update on my pc. the ubuntu updated fine but when I rebooted, i had a black desktop with my awn only showing and some screenlets. Somehow, gnome was uninstalled.

Anyway, I did a Reinstall since reinstalling gnome didnt work at all. I came accross a new problem! with the latest kernel ending in 15, it locks up but with the 12, it boots fine

If i go through the recovery, it stops with my high definition tv tuner and nxt driver loaded and stays there. using the 12, goes right by it and doesnt pause at all.

If I wanted to see what was going on under the hood and report a bug, what steps can I do to report this issue correctly? I'm a total newb but very expirienced in using the tools in certain conditions.

another issue i am having is if i reinstall everything, i update and then I try to install the older nvidia drivers through recovery, I need a kernel source but none availalbe for the latest kernel that ends with 15. If I do a fresh install, without an update, I can install the nvidia drivers mannually just fine.

any help appreciated.. update! running 8.04 with all drivers just fine...but I cannot update it! If I do, I can't run my pc at all.
