Since most geeks, myself included, like to tinker and mess with devices like ipods and stuff, why not adding a forum where all modding and hacking is discussed?

That is likely to attract a lot of illegal requests and discussions. Although many games and devices may be modable (no idea if that is a word), I can just see the influx of requests...

I think that would be cool, if it is moderated correctly.

Is hacking a computer game for personal play actually illegal? I've never looked into it.

It depends on the game.

I think it would be neat. You couldn't call it "modding and hacking" per se, but a more creative title with less connotations would be neat. I'd love to see some posts about hardware modding like that guy who added all sorts of accessories to his eeePC, or maybe some stuff on Pentium-M undervolting, or just plain old "how do i solder" type stuff. Theres all kinds of possibilities.

I think that I was missunderstood, I do not mean hacking as in cracking of software and cheating in games and stuff but I mean hacking as in hardware to improve it. Hacking in software would be something like ipodlinux or rockbox.

I think the request was understood correctly, but the problem is that such a place would likely attract illegal requests, regardless of whether or not that was the original intent.
Legal modifications and hacks are welcome topics of discussion here already, by the way.

Yes, I understood completely, but no matter how it is named, it would get loads of illegal requests.
If there were a sticky on it, in all caps, they would still post.

For the reasons mentioned by LaRoza & p_quarles, I am not in favor of it. It's too much of a risk for us.

There's already a forum for development of Ubuntu.
If you're interested in hacking other code/modding I'm very confident there are better, more established forums out there on the intarwebs?

Oh well I never really though that that would happen, I was thinking something like http://www.makezine.com/ or http://www.instructables.com/ but if the staff decides against it, I guess it is for the best.
