I play a lot of games and I'm quite hesitant to go towards using only Ubuntu as I'm not sure if 3d games would work on a Virtual Xp Machine.
So I was wondering if it's at all possible to run 3d games in a virtualized machine under Ubuntu, while maintaining good enough performance for gaming. If it's possible, can some one tell me what kind of virtual machine software they use?
Thank You!:)

I dont think that you can, at least at the moment.

With Virtualbox, it's out of the question.

VMWare Workstation appears (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=707057) to support it. But I don't think it's free.

Otherwise, try wine/cross over office/cedega or dualboot.

You can't, its not possible at the moment with VMware, Virtualbox, QEMU or any other virtrualization software. WINE and crossover-games is your best bet for getting windows games working under linux.

spare the troubles, just use a dual boot system.
windows for games
linux for the rest.

thats what I do, but im no longer playing, so im planing on removing the win partition.
