Is there a Flash type authoring tool that will create motion tweens using imported graphics? f4l looked promising, but seems to have died.

I would like something that can be put on my computer, rather than a web-based application such as ajax.

I have tried f4l both 0.1 and 0.2.1 on Gutsy, and 0.2.1 on Dapper, and I just get a nice looking GUI that is virtually functionless. I have read a few comments from long ago forum posts where someone claims to have had it work. If anyone knows how to get it working, that would be great.

You can use Ktoon, I don't know much about it. but it is a animation software, that is some what cost to Flash's animation and yes, you can save it in to Flash format, although I don't know if you can programming it like you do in Flash. I mean if you really need to use Flash, it is also run amazing under Wine. well, I never try it, sense I don't really need it. but that is what I told from the wine site. so hehe good luck with it

The Flex SDK is free. You can use any text editor to write actionscript, then save it as an .as file and compile it with the flex compiler. There are also many free text editors that will provide actionscript syntax hilighting as well as automating the compiling process. For a simple .AS editor I've used Scite Flash in the past, although I currently use Flex Builder Linux because it supports auto-imports.

Do you need the result to be a flash file?
If not then you could take a look at Synfig Studio. It's pretty advanced and it should be in the repos.

I think OpenOffice can output to .swf

You can use Impress to do simple animation effects that you're talking about yu can also output to .swf from Draw.

you can also try osflash.org

This is correct, but you cannot use it for animations. I have made Present presentations and and used the export tool to save them as flash, it is not hard. You just don't have any shortcuts. If you make your own gif animation and export then you have a Flash movie made in OOo

Thank you all for your help. That gives something to work with anyway.

Sorry for the delayed reply, My computer quit working and it has taken some time to catch up on things.
