Well started a home project for fun making a FF7 clone, the goal is pretty "simple"; make a FF7 clone that looks decent and plays good, graphic wise I'm aiming for something similar to the original, perhaps a bit more detail but the goal is not a graphic extravaganza but a game that looks good and can be played to a hand held (in this case primary goal is Pandora (and perhaps GP2X) and I prefer putting time on the storyline instead of 3years of just making skins and models.
I'm doing it in SDL, the questions is, the fight scenes like in FF7 should have a rotating camera ect, spite animations can handle most of the game graphics when walking around and so on but the 3D needed to spin the camera around the battle field is that possible in SDL?
Haven't used SDL before and the documentation that I've found doesn't really talk much about the limitations, do I need to go OpenGL?
