I have an image i need cleaned up. i started working on it but im not too good, I took an iso photo and i want the tag extracted with a blank background. The edges are all crackled(you can see in zoom). also I was wondering if anyone could take out the circle around the tag, the quotes, and the underline. Thanks in advance!!

oh and if you cant read it:
it says "sense!" with a halo around it
-the left quote mark runs into the halo
-the right ones are obvious
-the exclamation point is resting on the end of the last e

If it's meant to look just like that image you extracted, then you can chuck it into Inkscape and go Path>Trace Bitmap to smooth it...

"you can chuck it into Inkscape and go Path>Trace Bitmap to smooth it..."
I added an extra level of smoothing (Ctrl-L) and it comes out like this:

I don't get it..... you just want the part that's been traced in yellow? why can't you do this yourself? I'd help, as it wouldn't be much work for me, but at the same time.... I normally charge money for this sort of thing.

But you still haven't clearly said exactly what you want - that whole round thing or just the yellow highlighted areas? If you want the whole round thing, Tux Aubrey has done that. If you only want the yellow bits, you can use the pen tool in Inkscape.
Edit: Just re-read the opening post - I guess you can just use the pen tool to trace over it manually, and set the stroke to the same thickness as the reference photo. Although it would just be easier if you drew the thing again on a plain piece of paper and take a new photo of it without the circle, quotes and underline.

*grumble grumble* download your .psd from my webserver here. (http://brian.lg-ent.com/sense.psd) Not all work is free, FYI... some people only make what they get paid for the work they do... like me, for example.

open it in GIMP and use a blur filter

hey thanks everyone for the help. As far as the image goes, Tux got the smoothness I wanted( i hated the crackly edges). I ll just have to go around it and cut out what I dont want. Thanks for everyones input, ill just mess with it til i get it.
ps - stone cutter, I downloaded the .psd you uploaded, but it looked the same to me. Are you sure that was the right one, it looks like the one I upped. Maybe I am missing something?

I made a path. Open the paths dialogue and look at it. You should see a single-line tracing of the text you wanted.
You'll need to click on the path (Sense) to see it. To use it, create a new layer, select the tool you would like the path drawn in (perhaps a 18px regular, hard-edged round brush), and then click the 'Stroke Path' button (it's 2nd from the left at the bottom of the paths dialogue).
Keep in mind that you'll need to be on a blank layer to keep it from painting right over the original drawing (left so that you can compare the path to the original).
Attached: sense1.jpg, sense2.jpg
sense1.jpg shows the .psd file from my server (I downloaded it from the link I provided to make sure they were the same), but with the path selected so that it would show.
sense2.jpg shows just the path plus a stroke with the brush I suggested.
**Paths are vector shapes, and as such can be infinitely resized, transformed, and reshaped the same as all other vector objects.
**Gimp can't read (so far as I can tell) paths embedded in photoshop documents, so you'll HAVE to use Photoshop to use this.
