So hey, I'm glad to help whenever I can with the art project,
But here's the deal:
Whenever I check my project email, I have usually like 35-40 new emails,
All from the Ubuntu art newsletter.

I have tried the steps to remove myself from the list, but I forgot my password for the account.

Now I want to say:

It is a really poor design, when someone needs a password to remove themselves from a mailing list.

What is needed is to just send an email from the registered user's email that says something like "remove" in the subject line. That's it! Nothing else!

Now I don't mind getting an email once a week, but 17 or 20 a week is way too much.
That is SPAM and needs to stop.

I really hate to say this since I would love to be able to participate, but I am not going to want to have to remove the 30-some emails that I get when I check just to see what else I have in my inbox.
That is really annoying and I will no longer participate until that stops

If somebody can pass this along to whoever manages the mailing list, that would be a great help.

Thanks,
Suchawato

Do you mean the ubuntu-art mailing list (http://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art)? If so, just send a message with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject or body to ubuntu-art-request@lists.ubuntu.com.

Your password is also in the welcome mail sent to you when you registered. You can also retrieve it by sending a message with the word "password" in the subject or body to the address above.

Now I don't mind getting an email once a week, but 17 or 20 a week is way too much.

If you mean the mailing list, it's a list people use to communicate and get work done, so the volume depends on the amount of activity, and it definitely isn't spam. You signed up to the list yourself, and when doing so, you're assumed to have read the list's description.

I really hate to say this since I would love to be able to participate, but I am not going to want to have to remove the 30-some emails that I get when I check just to see what else I have in my inbox.

This is what mail folders and filters are for. Just set up an "ubuntu-art" folder and create a filter in your mail client or IMAP webmail interface to put all mail sent to ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com to that folder. Your inbox will be clean, and you can check the folder as often as you like.
