I do not have a lot of experience editing video. Most of what I do with video is transcoding and putting it on media (vcd, svcd... someday I will get a dvd burner). However, I have heard the Cinelerra is very good for video editing. The interface is a little backwards and I'm not sure what the programmer was thinking much of the time when I use it, but it is quite functional and produces good output. (not many open source video editors can say that;) )

Hi. I'd like to take video off of my digital camcorder and put it on DVD via my Kubuntu PC. Can someone suggest software/hardware to do that with? I'm assuming that I'll need a firewire card for my PC. Are they pretty much all supported in Linux?
Any suggestions are really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm running a firewire card right now. It works fine with my Ubuntu box (my ipod is another issue :( ). I've heard of (and experienced) kernel problems with firewire drives (particularly ipods) but I haven't heard anything about streamed video through firewire problems causing any problems.
