I want a KDE distro that is faster then Kubuntu, but not more complicated, anyone know of any? (preferably based on debain, or is Debian KDE quick aswell))

Well PClinuxOS2007 seems fit for you.

hmm I'm actually looking to do a minimal installation of Ubuntu with KDE core, think that will work?

Well... you say you want fast, yet not complicated... and hopefully debian based.....

I'm not sure what your level is but maybe try Sidux, or pure Debian and customize it to fit your needs. Or maybe try Mepis.

If you want to experiment outside of the debian fold try Arch, Fedora, PCLinuxOS 2008 MiniMe or Slackware.

Sidux (http://sidux.com/)! It seems tailored to your needs.

I won't call you stupid, but just click Download/Mirrors on the left side of the Sidux home page. I just tested the Internap server in Atlanta and it started downloading fine. Once you click a mirror, select release and pick an iso.

Mepis might be the one for you, I find its KDE pretty clean.

I'd give ubuntu+kde-core a shot . It is NOT the same thing as kubuntu.

Does it have to be KDE?
There are other desktops and window managers (http://xwinman.org/) available.

I was going to suggest Arch+KDEmod but that would make things more 'complicated' if only for the initial arch install.

sudo aptitude install kde-core
sudo aptitutde remove clunky

Knoppix is the best KDE distro I've tried. It's much faster than Kubuntu, but doesn't feel like a "light" distro.

Seeing as we have gone outside debian based, I'll add Mandriva, its not the lightest but it doesn't feel slow or bloated. Other than that Arch with KDE-mod is the way for speed.

not quite. installing the base of KDE will not install all of the apps associated with kubuntu.

what about LinuxMint KDE?

Kanotix

Slax is also quite cute, and not very clunky. Or at least not from my perspective.

Kanotix for Debian stable with good hardware detection. You can use the RC6 or RC7.

sidux if you want Debian sid (unstable) made stable for the cutting-edge stuff.

good kde = build your own from scratch.
