An official statement by the moderation team:
After hours of usability testing and discussion, the forum theme has been redesigned to fix several major flaws.
This is only the first step in the process, the pink ponies logo will be instated momentarily. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.

PmDematagoda, on behalf of the staff.

(There is a theme changer bottom left which will be available until the bugs are ironed out, and this theme is instated permenantly.)

Urghhhh!

Why such strong colours?

Also, the pink against an orange background not only clashes, but has very poor contrast, making it hard to read posts and puts strain on the eyes.

You need to replace the pink with black, or another much darker colour.

Roger

Whoever designed it obviously has a taste for retro-modern, as it reminds me of the shag carpeting I grew up with.

This should be the standard scheme for all forums.

Forrest Gumpp

Historic first!

MS ports new desktop skins to Linux! The new skins, compiled with the aid of graphic design consultancy Ishihara & Rorschach NL, feature new interactive capabilities which, among other things, are capable of gauging viewer emotional response and reporting this back to a special User Support Unit newly established at Redmond.

Filtered feedback from this unit is intended in the near future to be made available to users of the new skins. In a notable act of magnanimity, Ubuntu has been the first major Linux distro to take advantage of this cutting edge product, introducing it to the Ubuntu Forums, where it will be doubtless well received.

No EULA is included with the new release, which is a big win for open source. Insiders around Redmond are interpreting this porting as a harbinger of big changes in approach by MS. A whole new vista of mutual co-existence is virtually on the world's desktops!

Concurrently with this historic uptake by Ubuntu of an MS product, MS also announced changes in the design of its corporate flag (a blue cross on a blue background) to that of a white cross on a white background.

I finally got around to installing Emerald and tinkering around with Compiz themes. After a couple of hours of installing, editing, and matching with GTK+ themes and wallpapers, I finally found a desktop style I liked.

Then I logged into Ubuntu Forums, took one look at the color scheme, and nearly had a heart attack. I was wondering how the hell I could have screwed up Firefox's rendering engine by just installing desktops themes, and how to even begin trying to fix what I broke. DOH!

The forum's April Fools color scheme might be funny but what if some new users desperately need help? The drop-down menu on the lower right is not very easy to find for other people.

Just my two cents. Anyway, this is just going to last for half a day.

If they're that desperate, they can probably put up with the theme. The world doesn't really, despite popular beliefs, revolve around ubuntuforums.org, so it's probably not going to stop just because the colors changed for one day.

Last night apparently someone changed the theme of ubuntuforums. I'm going to be honest; this new theme is just awful!! Orange backgrounds and pink text??? It looks like a web 1.0 12-year-old's blog. Please change it back to the original theme. Attached is a screenshot.

[EDIT]: You can change the theme of the forums for your account in your User CP. To do this, click on "User CP" at the top left of the screen and click on "Edit Options." Towards the bottom of that page there is a section that says "Forum Skin." Change it to "Default Style UF2.5", click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page, and everything should be back to normal.

I love the joke theme, but you might want to change it a little so it is at least readable.

If someone had a computer problem today, they might get mad at the forums for not being able to fix it due to the unreadable theme.

In other news, I've completely had it with Linux and Ubuntu and I'm moving back to something that actually works without requiring you to write code!

I'm not color blind but I have red-green issues. Sometimes I cannot read certain color combination with red and/or green involved. I flunked the eye doctor's color dot charts.

Hi everyone.
I think the colors on the forum are fantastically fugly. :-)
New users, however, might hear about the new release coming up, visit the forum site, see the nastiness, and get a bad impression of the distro. So, I urge the admins to please bring back the old colors ASAP!

Let's not scare anyone away from Ubuntu by giving them the wrong idea - especially when so many people are being disappointed by Vista.. let's not encourage them to use MacOS!

Other than all that.. Happy April Fools Day!
