I am a boring person who looking for something to do. And I think making a game is like the best way to kill time. haha
I am thinking to Make a game with Panda3D, will too lazy to write my own Game engine, and don't know how too. But I don't feel like to do it alone myself. I am here looking for people who would like to join me. The game I have in mind is like a Strategy game. not the kind like war craft or starcraft but more like AngelVale, and HSL, yes, they are japan and chinese game, I really can't think of any english is like this. so... (Maybe is time to have one)
The programming to this kind of game wouldn't to so hard, and wouldn't too much. because most of the time, the whole game that last like 30 hours can fit into 200MB to no more than a CD-rom. so.
I personally can do pencil animation sketch (Like how the action is going to looks like), character design. any kind of art stuff, 3D modelling, programming, and website design (for the games). The Only I couldn't do is Music. haha.
I mean a term of seven people would do. like 1 director, 2 artist, 2 programming, 2 musician. Well, it is true, there is a lot of work, but it is do able. it only take a bit longer. of course more people are working together the faster it will get done.
I just wondering if there any one would like to join me.

I don't think it would hurt with some more concept and perhaps a few sketches, most games fail to even run one time because of that! btw nice site I like your ghost lamp pic, I have it as my wallpaper now. :)

haha thanks for the support. I think you are right, too bad I don't have a scanner or else I can scan some sketch. although I can do it at school. I think I will post some sketch few day later.

OK, Here we go. Let see some concept.
Let first talk about the game type. As I said before, I want to make a Strategy game like Angelic Vale, HSL, super robot wars, and Final Fantasy Tactics. This type of Strategy game are mainly develop by Japanese and Chinese.

So, Let me explain some of main focus of this kind of game.
This type of game usually have a very story line. Thing will get discover as it toward to the end, and even that it often have some element that will never get discover. Player often need to go back and play a few time in order to understand the whole story. Just like reading a very interesting book or watching a really interesting amine.
Characters are one of most important element. They are develop in a very detail way, Every one of them are unique and they are not so customizable that is because it has to do with the story line, Of cause, there are many item and Equipment they are able to use. Every one of them will have their own unique skills, item of magic and special skill. But in my game, I would like to put even more type of skills, which I will talk about it later. Beside the main set of characters, there are also a rich set of CM character. you know, just like RPG games.
A rich collection of item is one of most attractive point of this kind of games. You can only buy so much of the items. and there are million of hidden item local at difference place. And of course there are item that is needed in order to finish the game. And item will reaction differently to difference characters.
Levels, because this is a Strategy games the enemy's level will go up as your character goes up, which most time, you will get a feeling of unfair, because not just their level is same as you or sometime a bit higher, but they always out number you . I remember when I play HSL, and the end, I have 9 character, and I am VS like 70 enemies which is pretty hard but it is dame fun.
View of the World, the set of the story are often really interesting in this kind of games. not just you will have to discover the mystery behind the story itself. you will often found yourselves are discovering the history of the world in the game, and some other interesting feature of the map you standing on. And you are able to discover more if you want. there should be some side stage or secret stage, you can go if you have the require elements.
Online game play, this type of game usually are not supporting online game play, but I am think a system that allow player to play online, For example, I am thinking you can choose or create your own character when you create your account. and you can choose any character in the game as your war partner, and VS some other, and of course, you can level up as you go, but there are always a mode that when you VSing some other, both of you two's level are average. to make it fair. I mean this is just a simple concept, and it will get develop more as it goes. so
The software I think I will be using is Panda3D for engine, and Blender for Graphic, along with Gimp and inkscape. Ogg format music if possible. I am not saying it has to be done under Open Source Software, but I don't have license on any software, so. This game I am making will be always free for download, however, I might charge for hard copy. (that is just it will ever get done, hehe.) And I have no idea how music work, so, I can't really think of anything that do with music, I hope some one can help me on this.
I am wondering on some basic sketch right now such as character design, and the Story line. also some image, and system layout. I will post up some work as I go along.

If there's gonna be a lot of words in the game, you may also want a translator to make sure it all sounds right.

Introduction:
Zage is a turn-base strategy game run on Linux. The story happen in a realm where the law of nature got twist by a Ideal Engine, G.O.D., which create by a polymath scientist age along during the 2nd Renaissance. This engine was built in order to let people live in their ideal life. Thing such as magic, dragon, Chi, and many other things that only appear in fantasy of man kind are now physical appear in the world because of G.O.D. In order to protect this Engine, the scientist who create it also create a Force system call the Angel Force, also know as the Angel Army. Thousand of years has pass after G.O.D is created, people have form a new set of culture and laws under the physic that is given by the engine. However, there is a group of people who start to think, this engine destroy the reality. And people have live under the laws of the one who created this engine, although the law is almost perfect. They try to destroy the engine, but at the end, they disappear, and no one know where they have gone. Many years later, the Main character “Is”, (means mystery in the story) and his friends N.S. (Means extremes, she is a girl). (They are Legend Hunters) found a dairy that belong to the Group Lead who try to destroy G.O.D. years ago, and they begin to realize there truth behind their every day life. As who they are, the Legend Hunters. They begin to search for the truth.
Background:
This game is a Open Game that use free engine, library, and Open Source software. It will be always free for download. Although you can buy a hard copy to support the team. It will be develop under C++(or Python). And Use Blender as it’s main graphic tool along with Gimp and inkscape. .ogg will be the format use for music file, and Finally .avi will be use for video.
Description:
The requirement of this game wouldn’t need you to have a cutting edge computer in order to play. although you will need your keyboard and your favorite mouse to play it. Speakers are recommended but not require.
Key Features:
The main game play of Zage is in screen turn-base strategy, which mean it will go into a difference screen which where the battle will take place. Like never before. A Key Hit system will be introduce. For example, when you choose a skill to attack your enemy. A percentage of the full attack potential damage will be give to the enemy, and the player will need to complete a series of key hit like what you did in DDR in order to give the enemy the full potential damage.
Beside the main stream of game play, there are many stage in the game which you will need to solve some puzzle in order to continues. There are also number of secret stage and items, that will tell you more about setting and background of the main story, and the realm the story told place. It is up to you to discover the game world. You are allow to go back to anyway of the map, and discover more about it.
There are also few secret characters you are able to meet during the journey. They will make your journey much more interesting. There will also be a rich collection of items. It will give a excreta challenge to the game.
Job up grade, there will be a job grouping system. As you up grade your job, you will gain with many new skills, and new looks.
Genre:
The main focus of this game is the game play experience. The graphic focus on this game is not toward to realistic, which will increase the system requirement. The graphic will be well made as it is in it’s own art, and gorgeous.
Platform(s):
The game will release in Linux only first. It will have a On-Line play mode after the Main game is finish. Windows and OS X version might or might not be develop by the original term. That will be discussion after the game is complete done, and run perfectly under Linux.

The cool thing is that you are into the art and modeling stuff. Programming is easy, it's the content that is hard to come up with.

Your idea is good and it will take a few and more YEARS to make a playable game, and you will need to gather a team to work with which is hard to do.
Maybe you should consider joining existing projects that already have teams.

It will be FREE (in all aspects) and will be released for GNU/Linux.
Although I don't like the childish style of their game, but I hope they will change it to a more mature kind of game as anime should be IMO.
P.S
If you indeed want to make a new project despite all the projects already in development I suggest you to change the engine from Panda3d as it's NOT REALLY FREE, they have EULA, try supporting FREE engines like Crystal Space and many others...

i would beg to differ, programming is dificult and media is easy(er). its story, concepts etc that are hard to come up with
avi will be use for video
why not use oog/theora? better quality and takes up less room

mh thanks fo telling me the FREE engine, and the format. I will get my eyes into it. I am busy on one of my architecture project for a week and so. Right after that I will start post up the concept Art on my site. I know it will take forever and ever. but so did anything else I did already. haha. I will break it down little by little for now, and I will give it a full speed when the summer come because I will have much more time.

I just did a bit research about the License of OGRE 3D Crystal Space and Panda 3D. I realize they are all some how using the Same license that if you modify something you need to send them back or release the code and tell where did you modify. However Panda 3D announce that they make a mistake on that. And they will change it as soon as they finish transfer it's own ship. So I might end up building the game with Panda3D if that is the case.

irrlicht can be used without relising sorce code. and its verry easy to use.
though Linux would not exist without the GPL.
