Ok, so I'm bored and making a sig for the new internet name i'm about to start using. What do you guys think so far? it's pretty plan. but i'm not very good with photo editing. plus this is the first time i've ever really used gimp. but i want you guys ideas on what i should do or add and i need to know of a cool looking font that would go good with this picture.

thanks.

Put a black gradient on that reflection coming up from the bottom, this will make it look more 'realistic' and it will clean up that whole bottom edge for you.

As far as a font? hmm, definitely a sans-serif!

Also, put a slight blur on the reflection.

To blur, do filters > blur > gaussian blur.

so something like this?

Exactly, but don't angle the text reflection, cause the globe reflextion isn't angled.

so do it like that? =/
it seems pretty boring
is there anyway i can round the corners off
and what else should i do to improve it?
and thanks for all the help :)

If you mean on the black background, press control+a on the background layer, go to select > round corners, and round the corners the desired amount, then do select > feather, feather by 5, then push control+i and delete.

move the font up and center it horizontally with the globe

is that better?
and what should i do about the font?

You should do it in all caps. Otherwise, the p will hange down, making it look uneven.

where did you get the globe and how did you get the reflection?

The reflection can be done by pasting and lowering the transparency on the new layer, as well as flipping the layer. Then do blurring like said above.

Here's what I would do (just so you can get some ideas, none of these is being forced upon you):

Put the UN either in all caps or in all lowercase to match.
Center the "main part" of the letters, e.g. the centerline of letters like e, a, or o with the globe, it'll probably look more symmetric.
Soften the letters' outline, or give them a reflection too.

Otherwise, looks fantastic! Quite impressive, very clean and sophisticated.

in the XTNS menu >logos you have all kinds of neat ways of making letters. You can even take it further. Check out this link: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/opensource/?p=182

I like to use the smear tool to go around rough boundries.
